SMILE----spring is only 19 days away!!!!!!!

Dear Parents,

On Monday, March 8th, St. Cecilia School will kick off its campaign of A Hundred Coins for Haiti.  This is in accordance with the Diocesan plea that each school assist with the relief efforts of Haiti.  Each student will receive a cloth pouch on Friday, March 5th, in which to collect his/ her 100 coins.  These coins can be of any denomination, (ie; a hundred pennies, nickels, dimes, or a combination). They will bring them to school and deposit them in each classroom’s money jug.  This is not a contest among classes. Coins donated from students will come from the heart with no prizes awarded, and will be sent to help with the Haitian relief.  The students of St. Cecilia are very generous and extremely concerned with the well being of mankind.  St. Cecilia School has already contributed $500.00 to this cause, and our hope is that this campaign will amount to another $500.00.  A Hundred Coins for Haiti will last one week, March 8th-12th.  Students may keep their cloth pouches at the end as a remembrance of this year’s school theme ------Making A Difference.

The following 7th and 8th grade Altar Servers received the Serra Club Servers Award for their dedication and reverence to the Altar as a server. The awards ceremony was this past Sunday at the Cathedral in Covington. Congratulations to these students!

From  the desk of the Principal   1/27/10

The Diocese has asked each school to raise money for the Catholic Schools in Haiti that have been destroyed by the devastating earthquake.  St. Cecilia has 3 different fund raisers going on for the children in Haiti:

1)      A beautiful blanket that was made and donated by Mrs. Peg Koch. It will be raffled off the last day at Catholic School Week.  Tickets are $.25 each of 5 for a dollar.

                   2)      A contributions of $2.00 from each students will opt them out of a NO HOMEWORK NIGHT on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd.

3)      Each student will receive a handmade pouch and will be asked to fill the pouch with a hundred coins.  The coins may be of any denominations, ie. a hundred pennies, nickels, or a combination of.  When the students will turn in the coins they may keep the handmade pouches.  This will happen the last week of February.

Due to circumstances beyond my control the Science Fair dates had to be moved back to Thursday, March 4th and Friday, March 5th. The Science Fair will remain set up that weekend for family and friends to view.  The Fish Fry dinner will be moved to the cafeteria that Friday night.

Thanks to all the 8th grade parent bakers.  The bakery items have been a huge success especially the brownies and rice crispy treats.  As of the time of this writing, the total is nearing $200.00.  Thank you all for helping out the 8th grade class in their quest for an all paid class trip.
