ST. CECILIA’S AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM  
Program Description:

The St. Cecilia School After School Program is designed to meet the child care needs of families of kindergarten through eighth grade children with parents who are not at home during the after school hours.

Location:

The After School program is held in the daycare  wing of St. Cecilia School. We will use the school’s playground and the church’s Undercroft on inclement weather days.

Goals:

The goals of the St. Cecilia School After School Program are:

  • To support working families by providing quality Catholic child care during the after school hours.  Parents can feel secure knowing that their children are in a safe and caring environment.
  • To provide a caring environment based on respect, Catholic identity and interpersonal relationships where children feel comfortable in a safe environment.
 Daily Schedule: 

2:15                 School is dismissed. Students will arrive at After school room and will check in for

                        attendance and put away backpacks.

2:30-2:45         Students will gather in group to go over the afternoon’s events, discuss problems or share

                        special events.

2:45-3:30         Outside play on playground or play in Undercroft.

3:30-3:45         Transition to inside school, wash hands, have snack

3:45-4:45         Quiet activities – students self select games, crafts, homework, daily planned activity

4:45-5:00         Clean up, put toys away and prepare to go home.        

5:00-6:00         Quiet time, read books, finish homework until parents arrive.

Program Activities and Philosophy: 

Our program serves up to 30 students daily.  It is designed to be flexible and to respond to the student’s need and interests.  A varied choice of activities is offered, including structured and non-structures activities.  Structured activities include outdoor and indoor recreation, art and craft activities, study and reading time, special projects, and enrichment programs.  Students also have plenty of opportunities for free time, during which they make use of board games, books, toys, puzzles and dress up clothes. A nutritious snack is served daily.  We will be sensitive to any special dietary needs of the children enrolled that day.

Code of Behavior/Discipline Policy: 

We expect students to be respectful to others and of property and to follow rules. A student who is behaving inappropriately will receive warnings and/or “time out”. If inappropriate behavior does not change, the parent(s) of the student who is misbehaving will be informed and asked to speak to the student. If improvement is not evident, the program reserves the right to suspend the student from the program.  In the case of suspension or withdrawal, the parent(s) are required to meet their financial obligations to the program.

 Calendar and Hours: 

The program follows the St. Cecilia School calendar, beginning on the first day of school in August and ending on the last full day of school in May.  It is open for after school care every regular school day.  We will offer care from 2:15 until 6:00.

The program is closed on all school holidays and school emergency closing days. 

Parents may pick up their children anytime during the program and must sign them out each day. Students will only be released to persons so authorized.  Parents should arrive with enough time to pick up their child and leave the building by 6:00.  Please allow time for your child to put away materials. A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged for pick-ups after 6:00. If an emergency arises which causes you to be late, please call the program, so then staff and your child can understand the situation and avoid unnecessary worry.  Staff will call your emergency contacts to pick up your child if you have not arrived by 6:15. Staff will stay with your child until he/she is picked up. Late fees are due at pick-up.

Emergency Closing During a Regular School Day: 

Occasionally school closes early because of an emergency.  On bad weather days, please listen to the radio for school closing information or call our number, 363-4314 . We will provide emergency care as follows:

  • If school is dismissed earlier than normal for an emergency (snow or other), we will be in emergency session for a one hour grace period while students are picked up. We will expect your child if this happens on a day when he/she normally attends.  We will call your emergency contacts listed on your registration form to pick up your child.

Registration Fee:A $25.00 registration fee needs to accompany this registration form.
