No school Monday and Tuesday (9/7 & 9/8)

Note: Participation grades this year will be listed under “projects” in the SRS system. (there is no “participation” category in our online grading system so we have to put it in the only place that is left :)Week of 9/8 to 9/10 Objectives for Social Studies 6

Students will:

·      Complete their study guides in preparation for Thursday’s test

·      Review for the test with the “Baseball” game

·      Learn how cave paintings add to our understanding of prehistoric times

 

*Themes of Geography and Map Elements Unit Test on Friday 9/10

Week of 9/8 to 9/10 Objectives for Language Arts 6

Students will:

·         Complete a final draft of their narratives in the computer lab if available (this is for a test grade)

·         Self-evaluate their narratives for the Six Traits of Writing using a rubric

·         Practice with pronouns and antecedents

·         Read nonfiction book in class during SSR time and work on reading journals

·         Read about cave paintings (connect to social studies)

·         Learn about requirements of a Cave Painting group project and conduct research in the computer lab

 

*Final draft (typed and proofread) due Thursday 9/9 (test grade)

*Nonfiction Book Reading Journals Due Monday 9/20 (test grade)

* Cave Projects due Sept. 24th (the cave paintings will be done in art class)

Week of 9/8 to 9/10 Objectives for Language Arts 7

Students will:

·         Conference at least once with the teacher during Writing Workshop time

·         Finish writing their phase autobiographies in class

·         Peer edit each others’ papers using the rubric for this assignment

·         apply the five steps of the writing process to submit a polished and edited copy  (typed 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1 inch margins all around) by Tuesday 9/14

 

*Phase Autobiography (final copy) is due Tuesday 9/14 (tentative) for a TEST grade

*Biography book reports due Monday 9/20

 Week of 9/8 to 9/10 Objectives for Language Arts 8

Students will:

  • write a 5-paragraph essay (with thesis development) following the 5-steps of the writing process (because there are several steps in the drafting process such as revising, editing and publishing, I am allowing students to use class time to write most of the paper,  this will take up most of our time together during this shortened school week)
  • continue working on spelling review with a focus on plurals and numbers
  • Make predictions for The Outsiders

* Descriptive Essay Final Draft due at the end of class Friday 9/10 for a test grade   (tentative)

* Historic Fiction Scrapbook project due date moved to Monday 9/20 due to the Bank of Kentucky Field Trip on 9/17
